The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a global non-profit responsible for the coordination of the Internet’s unique identifiers. This includes managing IP address allocation, protocol identifiers, and the Top-Level Domain (TLD) system. ICANN’s core mission is to ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet through a bottom-up, consensus-based multistakeholder model.
The Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) is the body within ICANN responsible for developing policies related to generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) like .com, .org, and .biz. Managed by the GNSO Council, the organization ensures that the domain name system remains fair and competitive while fostering global innovation.
